Chung Chae-Heon
Abstract
30 leprosy patients, 18 healthy people were submitted to clinical and radiological studies of alveolar bone resorption. Leprosy patients were composed of 4 tuberculoid, 3 borderline, and 23 lepromatous types in National Sorok Leprosarium, and healthy people were men and women who worked in same hospital. Oral Hygiene Index by simplified oral hygine index (OHI-S) and alveolar bone loss around maxillary incisors on standard dental x-ray were used in measuring, the 48 people.
The results were as follows.
1. The mean of alveolar bone resorption in leprosy patients was 24.14(¡¾11.45)% and that of healthy people was 13.80 (¡¾2.51)%. The rate of alveolar bone loss was greater in leprosy patients than healthy people.
2. The mean of alveolar bone loss of lepromatous leprosy was 25.72 (¡¾12.37)%, tuberculoid leprosy was 20.17 (¡¾2.84)%, and borderline leprosy was 17.32(¡¾8.5)%. The rate of alveolar bone loss in the lepromatous leprosy patients is not cantly different from the orther patients.
3. In general, the longer duration with leprosy disease, the grater alveolar bone loss in the anterior maxilla.
